Samantha takes what Stuart said to heart, but she doesn't back down. After a pep talk from Ted, , but she won't make a public statement — and she won't take responsibility for the chip on Stuart's shoulder about his chosen line of work. Leah has things of her own to celebrate in this episode, especially after landing her first client, Tina (), from the second episode. After reading Tina's new script, Leah determines that she could write a better one and asks Rosalind () for a sabbatical to try it. Rosalind comes in harsh and says that Leah needs to figure out what she actually wants to do with her life — but she also gives her two days to think about it. The junior lawyer takes her already-completed spec scripts to Rick under the guise that she is trying to get a potential new client representation because Ted's firm has a conflict. Rick offers some brutal feedback after he takes a look at the scripts, not knowing they were Leah's, and says that her client/friend should stick to giving feedback because it isn't the same as being a talented writer.

Props to Leah for being able to hear what Rick was saying without letting it destroy her. She may not be the writer she dreamed of being, but . She has Tina sign a letter of engagement and tells her how to get her script to the next level. That's not typically what an entertainment lawyer is for, but Leah embraces her talents and makes a stand for the kind of influential lawyer that she wants to be.

It's time for another tense father-son interaction in the 2010 storyline. Ted's father () comes back to his son for help after receiving a targeting letter from the U.S. Attorney's office. Pellegrini () discovers that Ted's dad had done something illegal and used it to extort him into offering Ted that job in the pilot. When Ted didn't take the bait, Pellegrini handed Ted's dad over to the feds. Now, .

Ted's alternative plan is to have his father testify against Pellegrini. It would allow Ted to get him immunity, help the Pellegrini case, and save Ted's career. The drawback is that it will put Ted's father right in Pellegrini's crosshairs, and we've seen multiple people suffer horrific fates for turning on the mobster. He refuses to take the stand because he's scared, which means Ted's case is weakened and he'll be forced to leave the U.S. Attorney's office once the Pellegrini trial concludes. , and there are still many unanswered questions about how all of this will lead to Eddie's () death and Ted leaving for Los Angeles to sign and as clients.
