Stevivor's reviews of older games coming to Switch 2 | Stevivor

Published 10 hours ago8 minute read

A host of already available, older games will head to the Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 June, and this post gathers reviews we’ve already filed due to availability on other platforms.

The games might not be new, but they may be new to you if you’re not playing on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

Cyberpunk2077 Keyart

CD Projekt Red’s transhumanist dystopian world is as far from The Witcher 3‘s fantasy as a game can get. While it might’ve had a complicated launch, we reviewed the game on a high-end PC and found it a treat.

“You’ll connect with V, worry about which way the story will go and stress over the aspects of it that you can control because you’ll want only the best outcome for them. You’ll raise your eyebrows at the graphical bugs showing up in a game eight years in the making (and thrice delayed) and then quickly forget them all as you bask in the beauty of Night City; the greatest video game world ever built,” Jay wrote in his 9.5/10 review.

“You’ll feel firstly overwhelmed by the number of upgrades to consider, and then underwhelmed by their lack of necessity as you hurtle towards its end game. Enjoy the ride, a satisfying one without question.”

We also awarded the title Best RPG of 2021 as part of our Game of the Year awards.

We’ve had limited exposure to the title on Switch 2 as yet, as I noted in my larger Switch 2 preview.

“I went straight to Cyberpunk 2077 to see what the experience would be like, and my expectations were met,” I wrote. “Draw distances were okay, visuals weren’t fantastic, but it didn’t chug along and would work as a portable Cyberpunk jaunt if you don’t mind playing knowing that another platform would provide a far better visual experience.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

final fantasy 7

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first released to PS4 before subsequent releases on PS5 and PC.

It’s a great start to what’s confirmed as a planned trilogy of games, though I’d say that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is better.

“Because this 40+ hour game is only a portion of the full Final Fantasy 7 story, it’s hard not to notice all the padding; side-quests and large, open areas full of lots of distractions equally as plentiful as are long, rather barren corridors that serve to hide loading screens between hubs,” I wrote back in 2020.

“While I appreciate that I can play darts, I’m also left to question why I’m playing darts when the fate of the world is seemingly hanging in the balance.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is available on Windows PC, PS4, and PS5. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

hitman world assassination

Hitman World of Assassination is a meld of a bunch of Hitman games, so let’s just focus on our Hitman 3 review.

“While the story mostly serves as an entertaining reason to move from location to location, Hitman 3‘s levels are where it really shines,” Hamish wrote in his 2021 review.

“It’s hard to go too much in to detail as most of the fun is in experiencing these areas for yourself, but if you’ve been a fan of the series you’re in for a treat. Each level feels more vast and sprawling than before, with Chongqing having a seemingly endless amount of floors to the sprawling chateau in Mendoza. Each level feels more vast than any in the series before.”

Hitman World of Assassination is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

hogwarts legacy

This one’s always annoying and uncomfortable to talk about. As we stated in our 2024 review, Hogwarts Legacy is set in the world of Harry Potter as created by author J.K. Rowling. Controversy has surrounded Rowling in the last few years, and it’s Stevivor’s belief that she has tarnished her own legacy, irreparably, through her words, actions and advocacy.

With that extremely important point addressed, we said in our review that, “Hogwarts Legacy delivers a world of choice on-top of the best spin-off story in the Harry Potter universe. The core narrative is the reason to play, and that will be the same for everyone. But it’s how you approach it that lets you truly become your own witch or wizard of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin.”

Hogwarts Legacy is available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

Breath of the Wild is a great game, but Ben couldn’t help but remark that the title was held back because of a release on both Wii U and Switch way back in 2017.

Breath of the Wild is a gorgeous game to behold, but it’s a cross-gen one,” Ben wrote. “Even playing on Switch, it feels like a game pushing hardware to its limitations at the end of its life. The vibrant art style is stunning to behold on the Switch’s fantastic 720p screen, and it’s how Breath of the Wild is best played.”

Thankfully, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild has been updated to take advantage of the Switch 2’s beefed up power. It’s available on Wii U and Switch, and heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

zelda tears 1

Ben adored Breath of the Wild, and the same certainly applies to Tears of the Kingdom.

“By leaning heavily on the world established by its predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom provides meaningful player freedom on a scale I’ve never experienced before. It may look the same and feel familiar, but Tears of the Kingdom delivers an entirely new approach to gameplay,” Ben wrote in his Switch review.

“How you tackle puzzles, combat and exploring the world is up to you, and yet it never becomes an aimless sandbox. It always has purpose, and that’s why Tears of the Kingdom is such a rousing triumph.”

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is already available on Switch, and heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

civ 7

Civilization 7 is another relatively new game, first launched on other platforms in February.

Civ 7 isn’t just good, it’s the real deal. It’s a sequel that thinks like one of the matches it contains – a lot of small but significant strategic decisions that, when added up, create a winner,” David wrote in our review.

“It feels different enough from previous iterations to justify the 7 in the title, and it thoughtfully builds on what came before. Civilization 7 is one of 2025’s first must-play titles.”

I also talked about its Joy-Con 2 mouse support in our recent Switch 2 preview, saying, “Civilization 7 showed me that the Joy-Con mouse can work exactly like a mouse — though I was thrown for a loop when trying to confirm prompts using the Joy-Con’s A button rather than the R shoulder button.”

Civilization 7 is available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

split fiction

Split Fiction is relatively new, first released on a range of platforms just three months ago. While we appreciated the co-op title, we like others by developer Hazelight more.

“Despite [some] pain points, there’s no denying Split Fiction is an enjoyable romp,” I wrote in my recent review. “It is equal parts platformer, shooter, and puzzler. Grab a friend and get playing (though if you’ve not played It Takes Two as yet, that’s recommended above this).”

Split Fiction is already available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

Who doesn’t love Street Fighter 6?

“For fans of the series, this latest instalment is an insta-buy. It’s an easy recommendation for fighting game fans at large too,” Hamish wrote in our original 2023 review.

“With a flashy and visually spectacular art style, excellent music and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humour, Street Fighter 6 should be on the radar of anybody looking to take a swing at a titan of the genre at its best.”

Street Fighter 6 is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.

Finally, Yakuza 0 was the start of what’s now a long-running love affair between Matt and the franchise.

Yakuza 0 is simultaneously the best and worst starting point for newcomers like myself,” he wrote way back in 2017.

“While there’s no doubt plenty of nods to the future of the series’ story that I’m missing, it also does a great job of laying out the origins of these two big players in the ongoing Yakuza narrative.”

Yakuza 0 is available on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. It heads to Switch 2 on 5 June.
