State park police break up large Jones Beach gathering - Newsday
State park police said they broke up a crowd of about 500 people Thursday evening at Jones Beach.
Police went to the Central Mall about 6:20 p.m. where a large crowd had gathered, park officials said.
State police with the help of a Nassau County police helicopter overhead dispersed the crowd by 8 p.m. Park officials said and no injuries were reported and police made no arrests.
The large gathering of what appeared to be mostly young people occurred a week after Long Beach police closed the city's beach after getting word of several high school seniors from Long Island and New York City cutting class and meeting there.
