Stakeholders task NASRDA, ACCI on technology innovation park

Published 9 hours ago2 minute read

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) have been urged to establish a “Drone and Emerging Technology Innovation Park” focused on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), robotics, and geospatial applications to nurture entrepreneurship.

This is one of the recommendations contained in a communique issued at the end of a three-day joint conference organised by both organisations, the second edition of “Africa Space Economy Confab and Exhibition (ASEC).”

The theme of the confab was “Space Economy and Emerging Markets in Africa.” The communique recommends that government institutions should be mandated to adopt satellite data systems for planning, monitoring, and reporting, driven through NASRDA capabilities.

Other recommendations are the need to increase awareness among the public and industrial sectors on the value of space data through targeted outreach and national campaigns.

“International Collaboration: Nigeria should deepen its data partnerships with regional and global institutions to enhance access to cutting-edge space assets and promote knowledge exchange.

“Establishment of space-focused desk officers: Relevant ministries and national planning offices should have designated officers to coordinate space economy programmes and align implementation with national strategies,” the communique further recommended.

On military and security integration, it recommended that training and adoption of space technologies should be extended to the military and security sector to enhance national safety and surveillance operations.
