Spencer Pratt Defends Heidi Montag's Wig at AMAs 2025

Heidi Montag turned heads at the 2025 American Music Awards on May 26 with a bold new look featuring a blond bob wig. The style drew criticism from some social media users, with one commenter suggesting her husband, Spencer Pratt, should have prevented her from wearing the hairpiece. Spencer, an alum of "The Hills," quickly came to his wife's defense.
On May 27, Spencer, 41, addressed the wig situation in a TikTok post, using the opportunity to promote his wife Heidi's upcoming album, "Heidiwood," set for release on May 30. He humorously captioned the post, "If you love her buy Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future. Fancy wigs cost like 20k ask Beyoncé."
In a separate TikTok video, Spencer further elaborated on their budget for such accessories. "A really nice wig is $20,000," he explained. "We don't have a $20,000 wig budget, so it's a cute little wig for the money that we can afford for a wig." Despite the polarized reactions to Heidi’s getup, Spencer noted that he’s taking the commentary in stride. "A lot of people loved the wig, a lot of people didn't love it so much," he continued. "But you know what? We're very thankful to be at the American Music Awards and having anyone talking about Heidi's hair."
Heidi, 38, and Spencer, who wed in 2009, are parents to two sons, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2. The couple has been notably open about their financial situation, especially after a significant setback earlier this year.
Their financial candor follows the loss of their home in the Los Angeles wildfires in January. Spencer shared with Variety that he had made "like, $4,000 on TikTok this week" and "maybe $20,000" from TikTok Live donations in his efforts to raise funds following the natural disaster.
However, the reality star was quick to point out that his income as a content creator isn’t quite as lucrative as some might perceive. "Everyone thought that was $3.5 million in the week," Spencer told E! News later that month. "If it was true, we would be in Bel Air right now shopping for our new house."
As the couple works to get back on their feet, Heidi noted that she and Spencer are thankful for the support they’ve been receiving. "It feels incredible because we can't afford to rebuild our house right now," she shared. "Hopefully, we will be able to do that and we will be able to get our kids’ house back."
