SPEEDRUN - South Africa's mobile internet explosion
A new survey from Statistics South Africa shows how South Africa’s have abandoned the home radio over the last decade and embraced new technologies like mobile phones and the internet and TV sets. These devices have utterly overtaken the radio as the main media dispensers for the masses.
“The percentage of households that owned a radio decreased from 79,8% in 2002 to 31,3% in 2024, while household ownership of television sets increased from 57,4% in 2002 to 77,5% in 2024. Pay TV subscriptions increased from 29,2% in 2012 to 58,6% in 2024,” Stats SA detailed in an announcement.
Information revealed in the survey details an internet ecosystem in South Africa that is highly mobile, with most South Africans accessing the net and the many services found within via their phones. This has also necesitated and will continue to see a growth in smartphone usage with a growing entry-level smartphone market.
Can Only Fans find a buyer? Looks like a big maybe right now as its owner is reportedly shopping for someone to take off the platform from his hands, but for the multi-billion dollar price he is asking for it, it seems no-one wants it.
Probably because of the problems the site comes with – we’re talking CSAM baggage here – which is something no-one wants.
Unfortunately, despite the money that could be made on the platform, the way Only Fans is perceived is holding it back, and likely will continue to do so.
