Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the attack on staff members of Ikeja Electric (IE) by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), calling for swift disciplinary action against those involved.
SaharaReporters learned that at least 10 IKEDC workers were injured and hospitalized after being assaulted by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers in Ikeja, Lagos.
A disturbing video obtained by SaharaReporters shows some of the electricity workers being forced to kneel with their hands raised, following orders from NAF personnel.
Reacting to the incident on Thursday via his X handle, Sowore described the officers’ actions as “unacceptably egregious” and urged the NAF authorities to immediately sanction those responsible.
He noted that the inhumane treatment of these electricity workers by Air Force officers is a gross abuse of power and must not go unpunished.
Sowore stated that the Nigerian Air Force must fish out the perpetrators and ensure they face the consequences.
"I unequivocally and wholeheartedly denounce the brutal actions of military personnel who invaded and assaulted workers at Ikeja Electric in Lagos.
"This unacceptably egregious behavior was reportedly perpetrated by men of the Nigerian Air Force @NigAirForce and these officers must be identified and sanctioned accordingly," Sowore added.
