South-South govs, APC leaders endorse Tinubu for second term
The All Progressive Congress (APC) governors and leaders of the party in the South-South, at the weekend, endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
The position of the governors and leaders of the ruling party was made known during APC’s stakeholders’ interactive session held in Benin. The event witnessed prominent figures, who extolled the leadership qualities of Tinubu, throwing their weight behind him to continue his Renewed Hope Agenda in 2027 to solidify his developmental strides and put the country on the path of continuous growth.
Prominent speakers at the event included Adam Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District; the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, who spoke on behalf of the Progressives Governors’ Forum.
HOWEVER, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, yesterday, cautioned politicians to allow the President to concentrate on tackling Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges instead of distracting him with the 2027 general elections.
He chided some politicians for prioritising preparations for the 2027 general polls over the daunting problems of insecurity, economic hardship and other inhibitions plaguing the country.
In a statement forwarded to journalists in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, who hitherto represented Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, contended that the political class should allow Tinubu to concentrate on addressing pressing national matters.
He recalled that upon assuming office in 2023, the President inherited a troubled economy with a ballooning debt profile, a volatile naira, and unsustainable fuel subsidy spending, noting that “through his technocratic background, halfway through his administration, he had rekindled a ray of hope that many Nigerians seemed to have given up on.
“His bold steps on reform, starting with the removal of fuel subsidy on his first day in office and later collapsing multiple exchange rates into a single market-determined rate, are now yielding positive results,” Oyintiloye said.
The former lawmaker said that it was worrisome how politicians were discussing who would get what ahead of the 2027 elections, while the President was busy dealing with various challenges confronting the country.
