SONA 2025: NPP Germany tackles Mahama over grand deceit, NDC's incompetence
NPP Germany Communications Director, Nana Osei Boateng
The Germany branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has swiftly responded to President John Dramani Mahama’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), describing it as a calculated attempt to mislead Ghanaians and conceal the incompetence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
NPP Germany denounced the president’s speech as “briddled with blame-shifting, half-truths, and empty promises” that fail to address the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
This was contained in a press release signed by its Communications Director, Nana Osei Boateng, dated Monday March 3, 2025, sighted by GhanaWeb.
During his SONA presentation last week, , President Mahama admitted that “the state of our nation is not good,” pointing to rising public debt, high inflation, and economic distress.
However, NPP Germany argues that these issues are largely the result of the NDC's lack of prudent measures as against inherited challenges.

SONA 2025: Mahama’s Grand Deception Is Meant To Hide NDC’s Incompetence Under A Black Mask
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Germany branch strongly condemns President John Dramani Mahama’s so-called State of the Nation Address (SONA), which was nothing more than a desperate attempt to whitewash his administration while misleading the good people of Ghana.
His speech was briddled with blame-shifting, half-truths, and empty promises that do nothing to solve the real economic issues.
President Mahama shamelessly declared that “the state of our nation is not good,” citing public debt, high inflation, and financial distress.
Let’s not forget that when the NPP left office in 2024, we handed over a growing economy supported by the International Monetary Fund’s Extended Credit Facility, the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, and a comprehensive debt restructuring program.
These initiatives were designed to stabilize the economy, reduce inflation, and create a sustainable fiscal path.
If the economy is in distress, as President Mahama claims, it is because his government has failed to harness the resources the NPP left behind.
The President claims his administration will “fix the economic crisis” and put Ghana on the path of growth and prosperity. But Ghanaians have heard these empty words before.
This is the same Mahama who plunged Ghana into an economic mess between 2012 and 2016, forcing the country into an IMF bailout due to high debt, a collapsing energy sector, and erratic economic policies.
His so-called “Big Push” policy—an ill-conceived US$10 billion infrastructure plan—is just another attempt to deceive Ghanaians.
How does he intend to fund such a project when his government claims there’s no money? More borrowing? Higher taxes? Further debt accumulation?
Furthermore, his much-touted “24-hour economy” is nothing but a hollow slogan.
Under the NPP, businesses already operated round the clock in critical sectors such as manufacturing, oil and gas, banking, and logistics.
What new policy framework has Mahama introduced to make this a reality beyond mere political rhetoric?
President Mahama’s promise to run a “lean government” with only 60 ministers is laughable.
This is the same NDC that has always expanded government bureaucracy to accommodate party loyalists at the expense of taxpayers.
The claim that they will cut down on unnecessary spending is an insult to Ghanaians when the government is already increasing the cost of living through aggressive taxation and failed economic policies.
His call for a National Economic Dialogue is another distraction. Ghanaians don’t need more talk shops; they need decisive action.
The solutions to Ghana’s economic challenges were already in motion under the NPP administration, but Mahama’s government has recklessly abandoned them.
Unlike the NDC’s deception and economic mismanagement, the NPP has consistently demonstrated its ability to build a resilient economy.
Under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP:
• Implemented the Planting for Food and Jobs program, boosting food security.
• Strengthened the banking sector, protecting depositors and restoring financial stability.
• Spearheaded major infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, and hospitals.
• Reduced the burden of school fees on parents through Free SHS.
The NPP remains the only party with the credibility, competence, and strategic vision to rescue Ghana from Mahama’s economic disaster.
President Mahama’s SONA 2025 was nothing but a carefully crafted deception to shift blame and hide his government’s incompetence.
Ghana cannot afford another cycle of economic decline under his leadership. The NPP will continue to expose the lies, challenge the incompetence, and offer a clear alternative for the future.
Ghanaians deserve better than empty rhetoric. They deserve leadership that delivers results, and that leadership can only come from the NPP.
We Say KUDOS to Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia government!!!
God Bless Our Homeland Ghana!!!
Long Live Ghana, long live the Elephant Party!!!!
Kukruduuuu Eeeessshiii!!!

Nana Osei Boateng
