Sokoto gov sympathises with Niger over Mokwa flood disaster

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has expressed his condolences to Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, following the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State, which claimed several lives and caused widespread destruction.

The flooding, triggered by torrential rainfall, led to the loss of lives and significant damage to houses, bridges, farmlands, and other valuable property.

In a statement issued yesterday by his Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu described the flood as a devastating and unfortunate event. He prayed for Almighty Allah to prevent a recurrence, forgive the souls of the deceased, and provide comfort to their families, relatives, and friends.

“The government and good people of Sokoto State are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the heavy downpour in Mokwa,” the governor said.

“This tragedy is not only a loss to the people of Mokwa or Niger State but a loss to the entire people of Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole.”
Governor Aliyu highlighted the historical ties between Niger and Sokoto States, emphasising that the disaster has brought untold hardship to the affected community.

He appealed to the people of Mokwa and Niger State to view the incident as an act of divine will and urged them to pray for the repose of the departed souls.

Speaking from the holy land, where he is performing pilgrimage, Governor Aliyu extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State, reaffirming his solidarity during this difficult time.
