Shark Tank India pitcher quit previous startup because of her ex, Anupam Mittal calls her 'one of the best founders' in the show's history
Anupam Mittal made a passionate case for himself on the latest episode of Shark Tank India.
A young entrepreneur named Radhika pitched her vitamin patches business, Patch Up, on the latest episode of . She said that she is extremely passionate about healthcare, because she discovered that many of the supplements that she was previously taking contained substances banned in Europe and the US. She said that her goal is to create an additive-free supplements brand, and she asked for Rs 50 lakh in exchange of 1.75% equity, valuing her company at Rs 28.5 crore.
Sharing some background information about herself, Radhika said that she studied economics at Delhi University, and then worked abroad for a few years. She said that she has been dabbling in entrepreneurship for a while, and has previously started a company while also working a regular day job. She left the company for personal reasons, and when prodded to tell the ‘sharks’ why, she said that it was because she had started that company with an ex-boyfriend. “Good call,” said.
During her pitch, Radhika demonstrated how to use one of her patches, but had questions and concerns. She said that she started selling vitamin patches at Emcure as well, but they simply didn’t take off. “The supplement industry is a war zone,” she said, asking Radhika if she has done clinical trials on her products. Radhika said that she hadn’t, but then, Namita discovered that the packaging of her products says that they are ‘based on trials’. She was very concerned about this. She said, “It’s misleading to say ‘based on trials’, because the first thought is that you’ve done clinical trials. I’ll tell you what your issue is, and take it in the right spirit because I want you to succeed. You can’t put trials on the package when you have not done trials. You’re lucky you’re new so nobody has caught this, but this can cause massive damage to your reputation and also a litigation.” With that, Namita backed out of the deal.
backed out as well, saying that it’s simply too early to invest in the company. He agreed with Namita about the supplements market being cutthroat. But , Anupam and showed interest. Ritesh offered Radhika Rs 50 lakh in exchange of 5% equity, and Peyush offered her Rs 40 lakh in exchange of 2.25%. Peyush was so gung-ho about the business that he even offered Radhika the option of cancelling her deal with a VC for Rs 2 crore by taking that same amount from him, at the same valuation. “I understand what it takes to build a category from scratch,” he said.
But nobody was as passionate about the business as Anupam. He told Radhika that he shares her anger with the supplements industry, and believes in her as a founder. He matched Peyush’s offer, and said that he could bring more value to her as a founder. Radhika thought for a moment, and decided to go with Anupam. As he got up to present her a cheque, he called her ‘one of the best founders’ that he has ever seen on the show.
