Seven individuals have been arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal mining along the Black Volta River by the Upper West Regional Police Command.

The suspects, comprising five males and two females, were arrested on Thursday, April 10, 2025, during an operation at Chiantanga near Dorimon.

They have been identified as Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

During the operation, the police seized various equipment and vehicles believed to have been used for the illegal mining activities.

These included ten changfang mining machines, two unregistered tricycles — PNE and Apsonic, four motorbikes, two of which were unregistered; and six student mattresses, suggesting the suspects may have been residing at the site.

It reiterated that the police have resolved to crack down all illegal mining activities in the region.
