Sanwo-Olu: parental values key to development

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized the crucial role of parents in the development of a responsible and morally grounded younger generation, describing parental values as fundamental to the nation-building process.
The governor made this known on Monday during the Eid el-Kabir celebration hosted by the First Family of Lagos State at the State House, Marina.
In his message, Sanwo-Olu urged parents to take active roles in shaping their children’s futures by instilling values that promote discipline, truth, and devotion to God.
“Our children are the leaders of tomorrow. As parents, it is our sacred responsibility to guide them in the path of truth, discipline, and obedience to Almighty Allah,” he said, adding that this form of upbringing is vital to fostering peaceful and progressive communities.
He also called on Muslims to reflect on the core teachings of Eid el-Kabir, noting that the virtues of sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith in God are essential ingredients for community resilience and societal harmony.
The event, which drew top government functionaries, religious leaders, youth and women’s groups, and members of the Muslim faithful, blended spiritual observance with communal fellowship.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Sa’eid Ahmad of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital echoed the governor’s sentiments, urging Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and values despite societal challenges.
“Life’s trials are inevitable, but we must hold fast to our faith and lift one another in times of difficulty. Our strength lies in unity and in the pursuit of communal well-being,” he said.
In her address, the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, commended the First Family for preserving the tradition of celebrating Eid with the populace. She described the gathering as a platform for promoting unity, love, and spiritual renewal in line with the essence of the holy celebration.
