Sanwo-Olu commissions key projects, flags off housing scheme in Ibeju-Lekki
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, commissioned some landmark projects in Ibeju-Lekki, describing them as tangible expressions of inclusive governance and progress under his administration’s development agenda.
Sanwo-Olu, during the ceremony, commended the Council Chairman, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, for what he called forward-looking and people-centred leadership.
He said that the projects, an administrative complex, a legislative building, a 400-metre standard paved road, and a new housing estate, represent the kind of transformational infrastructure his government envisions for communities across the state.
RELATEDLY, Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling the significant challenges facing the real estate sector through innovative solutions.
He made the declaration during the 75th World Congress of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), themed “Global Real Estate Renaissance,” hosted in Lagos for the first time on African soil.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, said that the event’s theme perfectly encapsulates the global transformation within the sector, propelled by innovation, sustainability, and inclusive urban development.
The governor, who led the commissioning walk along the newly completed 400-metre road, said the project was not only functional but would add economic and aesthetic value to the area.
In his welcome address, Olowa expressed immense pride and fulfilment at what he described as a historic moment for the people of Ibeju-Lekki.
He said the projects were milestones in the administration’s goal of rebuilding and repositioning the local council after the 2020 #EndSARS protests when the old secretariat of the council was razed by vandals.
Olowa emphasised that the new secretariat complex was designed to support efficiency, innovation, and a better working environment for civil servants, who he described, as the backbone of governance.
He also spoke on the council’s decision to venture into real estate development with the groundbreaking of the Citrus Garden Housing Scheme. The project, being developed in partnership with Rizz Consulting Limited, is aimed at addressing the urgent need for decent and affordable housing, especially for civil servants.
The governor emphasised that his administration views housing as a fundamental pillar of economic growth, acknowledging its broad impact on livelihoods, job creation, and social stability, adding over the past few years, the state government has rolled out impactful initiatives to boost affordable housing deliveries, utilising a diverse range of strategies.
The initiatives, he noted, were not only improving affordability, but also enhancing the quality of life for residents, generating employment, and stimulating the broader economy.
He, therefore, affirmed the state’s dedication to adopting global best practices and sustainable development models to attract more international partnerships, as well as working towards achieving its housing and urban development goals.
