SA: Fincra Secures South African Payments Licence to Bolster Pan-African Expansion

Published 6 days ago2 minute read

Fincra, a leading provider of payment infrastructure for remittance firms and businesses, has secured a Third Party Payments Provider (TPPP) licence in South Africa—marking a major milestone in its mission to strengthen cross-border payment connectivity across Africa.

With the TPPP licence, Fincra is now authorised to facilitate a wide range of local payment services in South Africa, including debit and credit card processing, electronic funds transfers (EFTs), real-time clearing (RTC), and rapid payment options. The move positions the company to better serve clients operating in and entering the South African market, where it competes with fintech players like Yoco, Ozow, and Peach Payments.

“Securing this licence is a significant step in our journey to lay the foundation for a more integrated African payment landscape,” said Ayowole Ayodele, Fincra’s CEO and Co-founder. “It reaffirms our commitment to building compliant and scalable infrastructure that powers cross-border commerce and unlocks new growth opportunities for African businesses.”

The regulatory approval enables Fincra’s clients—spanning e-commerce, logistics, B2B marketplaces, and the travel industry—to benefit from faster transaction settlements, enhanced operational reliability, and adherence to South Africa’s robust financial compliance standards.

Commenting on the development, Emmanuel Babalola, Fincra’s Chief Commercial and Growth Officer, described the licence as a “game-changer” for businesses eyeing expansion into Southern Africa. “It sends a clear signal that Fincra is dedicated to empowering our customers with the tools they need to scale efficiently and compliantly,” he noted.

This regulatory win follows Babalola’s appointment three months ago, marking a strategic move as the company intensifies its commercial growth efforts. Fincra’s progress in South Africa adds to its expanding footprint, which already includes operations and partnerships across Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, the UK, Europe, and North America.

Leveraging its relationships with Tier-1 banks and a robust suite of APIs, Fincra continues to provide global payment collection capabilities and local payout solutions. The company’s latest milestone underscores its commitment to facilitating seamless, borderless payments for businesses across the African continent and beyond.
