Several passengers have been seriously injured in the horrible road accident that involved a passenger bus belonging to ‘International’ transport company on Tuesday, February 11.

The New Times reported that the bus veered off the road near Ku Kirenge in Rulindo district, rolled and plunged about 800 metres down the slope, where it landed.

Preliminary reports showed that the bus, travelling from Kigali to Musanze, had 51 passengers on board when it crashed. Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente confirmed the sad incident, saying 20 people died while several others are nursing injuries.

Ngirente said the government was providing necessary support to the bereaved families and the injured who are receiving treatment in various hospitals.

“The government of Rwanda extends its deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in today's tragic road accident that claimed 20 lives and left several others injured in Rusiga Sector, Rulindo District,” Ngirente said.

The prime minister urged motorists, especially drivers to follow traffic rules to avoid such terrible accidents.

"We remind all road users, especially drivers, to follow the laws and regulations concerning road safety to prevent accidents and save lives," he added.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Jackson Justin, a 25-year-old graduate, lost his life in a tragic accident just two days before starting his new job.

The accident, which occurred on February 1, 2025, also claimed the lives of a retired teacher and her son.

Justin's family reported that his last communication was a WhatsApp status update indicating he was on his way. Soon after, they learned of his tragic passing via social media.

The family learned of their brilliant son's accidental death through social media.

Justin had accompanied his friend Mark, and Mark's mum to pick a new car that Mark's mum had purchased after going for retirement.

In another sad news, at least three people died in a grisly road accident that occurred near the Wii-Omino area along the Ndori-Luanda Kotieno Road in the Rarieda sub-county.

The accident involved a minibus from Nyaugenya Bus Services and a Nissan matatu, both of which were travelling towards Luanda Kotieno from Ndori.

Victor Otunge, the assistant chief of the Naya sub-location, stated that the vehicles were both speeding when the Nissan matatu attempted to overtake the minibus shortly after he arrived at the crash scene.

The area administrator said the impact of the collision was severe, causing the two vehicles to veer off the road.
