Russian Leader Putin Pledges Support For Iran After US, Israeli Airstrikes | Sahara Reporters

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has condemned the recent airstrikes on Iranian territory by the United States and Israel, labelling them as “absolutely unprovoked aggression” and pledging Russia’s support for the Iranian people amid the escalating conflict in the Middle-East.
Putin made the remarks during a high-level meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in Moscow on Monday, according to Germany’s DPA news agency.
The Russian leader affirmed Moscow’s long-standing alliance with Tehran and vowed to offer assistance, although he stopped short of specifying the nature of the support.
“We have had long, good and reliable relations with Iran. From our side, we will undertake efforts to support the Iranian people,” Putin said in an official Kremlin statement.
While Putin’s statement was diplomatically strong, Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, added a layer of caution, noting that the exact form of support would depend on Iran’s requests.
Peskov also stated that Russia is prepared to act as a mediator in the intensifying standoff between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
The comments come as tensions spiral following a series of major developments: The United States over the weekend dropped bunker-buster bombs on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities.
Israel expanded its target profile by bombing a political prison in Tehran.
Iran responded Monday by launching six missiles at US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, prompting Qatar to shut its airspace.
The Kremlin's pledge of support reflects the deepening strategic relationship between Russia and Iran, especially in the defense and military spheres.
Tehran has reportedly supplied Moscow with armed drones used in the ongoing war in Ukraine, while the two nations continue to align on regional security matters and counter-US influence in the Middle-East.
Putin also held a separate meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani on Monday to discuss the broader regional fallout from the strikes, underlining Russia’s intent to play a key diplomatic role in the emerging crisis.
With Iran under direct attack, Russia rallying in support, and U.S. military forces and allies in the Gulf region on high alert, fears of a broader war in the Middle East are mounting. International observers warn that the situation could spiral into a multi-front confrontation involving global powers.
