‘Trail of Vengeance’ star Rumer Willis says she’s “excited” to see what mother Demi Moore “does next”

Rumer Willis’ dream project sounds like a guaranteed box office smash.

Speaking about mom Demi Moore’s “exciting time” as an awards season darling (and the cover of PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful issue!), the actress-entrepreneur, 36, says she “would love to do an action movie with her. That would be so fun.” 

Rumer’s appetite for action was reawakened while filming the Civil War-era revenge movie Trail of Vengeance (in select theaters and VOD as of May 23), in which she stars as a gun-toting widow in 1875. “I felt like a little kid when I found out I got it,” she recalls. 

Shoot-’em-up Westerns are Rumer’s “dream job,” she adds. “I'm such a huge fan of Yellowstone, 1883.”

Wanting to costar with her famous mom, 62, in something along those action-packed lines stems firstly from being her biggest fan. “As a daughter and then also as an actor, as a peer, it's been such an exciting time to see her finally receive awareness and accolades,” says Rumer of Moore’s recent ascent to her first Oscar nomination thanks to The Substance. “I feel excited as a daughter, but also excited to just watch what she does next.”

Secondly, there’s her father’s cinematic legacy. Bruce, Rumer notes, ruled the action genre for years thanks to Die Hard, Red, their sequels and more. “My dad is such an action man,” she says, which was partly why she jumped at the chance to play a widow on the warpath in filmmaker Johnny Remo's Trail of Vengeance. 

“My mom's done her fair share [of action] as well,” adds Rumer of the Charlie’s Angels 2 star. “Man, I have such a kooky Hollywood legacy.”

In fact, the legacy continues; when Rumer’s 2-year-old daughter Louetta (who she co-parents with ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas) visited the Trail of Vengeance set and saw her mother covered in blood, she was unfazed. “It didn't scare her. I was like, ‘Man, I really know that you're a Willis girl.’ ”

Trail of Vengeance is directed by Remo, who co-wrote it with Daniel Backman. Also starring Gbenga Akinnagbe, Jeff Fahey, Eric Nelson and Graham Greene, the film is in select theaters and on VOD now.
