Rigathi Gachagua Claims State Is Planning Crackdown on His Allies

Published 13 hours ago1 minute read

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is worried that the state is planning to round up all his allies and prosecute them with trumped-up charges.

Speaking at the funeral of his aunt on Saturday, July 5, in Nyeri, Gachagua said he was aware of an alleged directive by President William Ruto to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest his allies.

The crackdown would be aimed at arresting the members of his dream team, he said.

Gachagua further claimed that the crackdown would be coordinated by governors allied to the president.

"I have received information that the DCI has been instructed by the president. The Embu governor has asked the DCI to arrest Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji. Nakuru governor has asked the DCI to arrest Geoffrey Mwangi, who aspires to be the next Nakuru governor. Nairobi governor also wants Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru. State House Comptroller Katoo Metito wants the DCI to arrest Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo to be prosecuted. That is what is happening. The DCI have been told to cook up charges for them," he said.
