Report: Trae Young wants to stay with the Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks offseason kicked off with a bang as the club announced they fired General Manager Landry Fields, and while the search for a President of Basketball Operations will dominate headlines in the coming weeks, this summer is about Trae Young.
Atlanta’s superstar point guard is up for a contract extension this offseason, and the entire focus should be on getting him to sign the dotted line. The organization hasn’t exactly done right by him since he was drafted.
Young has never played with an All-Star, despite Dejounte Murray earning the honor with the Spurs before the trade that sent him to Atlanta. Ownership has financially hamstrung Travis Schlenk and Landry Fields, which will always cap the ceiling of the team.
It would be completely understandable if Trae Young wanted out of Atlanta, but thankfully, that doesn’t seem to be the case. According to Chris Haynes, “He (Trae Young) is down with the process, he wants to see this Atlanta Hawks squad turn the corner, and he wants to be a pivotal part in that.”

This is a huge relief for Hawks fans because, honestly, I’m not sure why Trae Young would even believe in this organization anymore. Tony Ressler is a trigger-happy owner who refuses to go into the luxury tax to build a contender around him.
Thankfully, Trae Young seemingly believes in Quin Snyder and wants to win in Atlanta. This offseason will be very important for the Hawks and Young. New General Manager Onsi Saleh and whoever takes over as the President of Basketball Operations will have quite a challenging summer.
