A chinese firm based at Eshiem in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis in Western Region, Wangkang Ceramics Company Limited, has been given a one week ultimatum to stop illegal activities obstructing the flow and purity of River Anankore, one of the water bodies located at Inchaban.
Earnest Hoffman, officer, Water Resources Commission (WRC) at Ghana Water Company Limited briefed the Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson on illegal activities of the company against expressed instructions.
In response, Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, who gave the ultimatum, said the company's activities should not tamper with operations of Ghana Water Company Limited.
The water company had reported the Chinese firm to the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) following the refusal of the Chinese company to comply with the directive of Ghana Water Company and Water Resources Commission (WRC).
An attempt made by the water company and the Commission to settle the lingering matter had suffered severely due to an entrenched position adopted by the Chinese.
On Friday, 7th March 2025, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson brokered an amicable settlement of the impasse which had been raging since last year.
The Minister explained that the production and supply of water in the Metropolis and its nearby communities shouldn't be obstructed by activities of the Chinese firm.
Consequently, he instructed the private company to immediately find an alternative way of managing its waste and also free the River Anankore from any obstructions.
These, he said once carried out would allow Ghana Water Company Limited to produce and supply water without any inconveniences being created.
Again, he said pollution of the water body through activities of the ceramic company must cease henceforth following the directive.
He gave the Chinese a one week ultimatum to do the right thing and report back as determination of the matter hinges solely on their action and inaction.
