Tochukwu Ikenga, police spokesperson in the state, detailed that the operatives recovered one automatic pump action gun from the suspects.
Ikenga said the incident, which also left one person injured, occurred on Tuesday when armed men in a black Toyota Corolla car attacked the victims and fled.
“The Anambra state police command has recovered one automatic pump action and has five suspects in custody,” the statement reads.
“The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation over the murder of two persons and grievous harm to another in an alleged land dispute at Okochi-Ime Village, Okpuno, Awka south local government area.”
He said the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the nearby morgue, while the other injured person is receiving medical attention.
Ikioye Orutugu, commissioner of police in Anambra, has also directed that the case be moved to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for further probe.
“The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue while the other is in the hospital receiving treatment,” Ikenga said.
“Given the above, the commissioner of police has further directed the emplacement of necessary measures to arrest other fleeing suspects.”
