Addressing reporters after meeting President Bola Tinubu, Drew framed the relationship as a “blood connection” rooted in shared heritage, urging collaborative action to transform historical kinship into sustainable progress.

He said: “It is truly a privilege to stand on Nigerian soil—land rich in history, culture, and immense potential. My presence here marks a significant moment in the ever-deepening relationship between St Kitts and Nevis and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and by extension, a strengthening of the ties between the Caribbean and the African continent.”

He emphasised the shared heritage and potential for collaboration between the two regions.

“We are seeking to establish greater ties between the Caribbean and our African brothers and sisters here in the motherland,” Drew stated, highlighting the historical and cultural connections that bind the regions.

He described his visit as part of efforts to inspire investment in the Caribbean and strengthen regional cooperation.

When asked about specific areas of collaboration, Drew identified agriculture, food security, energy, logistics, transport, trade, and education as key sectors. “Food sovereignty is quite important,” he noted, referencing discussions with Nigerian firms about potential partnerships in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean.

Drew’s remarks reflect a broader vision to transform cultural kinship into tangible economic progress, aligning with his government’s Sustainable Island State Agenda. His visit marks a significant step towards deepening diplomatic and economic ties between CARICOM nations and Africa.

President Tinubu, on his part, said: “It’s a very great opportunity for Africa to connect widely, and Nigeria in particular, to strengthen our bilateral relations and examine and exploit all the economic opportunities that are available to us so that we can achieve more for ourselves.”
