Photography not leisure, it's a calling - Olalere
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kings Flash Photography, Oluremi Olalere, has described photography not merely as a career but as a divine calling powered by determination and purpose.
Olalere also said that photography was a lifesaver during his university years, and he urged Nigerian youth to embrace self-reliance and passion over dependency on government jobs or family assistance.
Olalere disclosed this in Abuja, during the unveiling of the King’s Flash Photography studio, where he shared his personal story of resilience and triumph, while addressing journalists on the sidelines of the event.
He said, “Choosing photography is no mistake. You being a lawyer or a doctor doesn’t make you better than me. This is my career, that is yours. God can take you anywhere when you believe in what you are doing.”
Olalere, who previously served as the personal photographer to former Liberian President George Weah, encouraged aspiring photographers to maintain focus despite challenges and societal perceptions.
Recalling his humble beginnings, he shared how he was once forced to shut down his first studio in Suleja, Niger State, due to an inability to pay rent.
With business operations spanning Nigeria and Liberia, Olalere has become a beacon of empowerment in the photography industry.
He has provided free photography training in Liberia and remains committed to helping others grow.
Olalere is also working on a forthcoming book titled Determined Mind, a personal project seven years in the making, adding that, “People said they would take over. I said no. People stood before us, and people will stand after us.”
He believes photography saved him during his university days, and he urges youths not to wait for government jobs or family support.
Also speaking at the launch was the company’s Director of Operations, Mosunmola Olalere, who holds a master’s degree in organic chemistry, and described her transition into the business as life-changing.
