Patrick Mahomes Prioritizing Future With Change to Offseason Routine
Training camps around the league are set to begin. The Kansas City Chiefs have both rookies and veterans coming into the building on July 21, and will begin their quest for another Super Bowl run.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the glue of the Chiefs' dynasty run, but the two-time MVP will turn 30 years old on September 17. As he enters his ninth year as the starter, Mahomes is looking at ways to extend his playing career, and taking care of his body is at the forefront of his mind.
When speaking to Adam Teicher of ESPN, Mahomes expressed he will need to take care of his body and knows it only gets more important as he gets older.
Mahomes said, "More than anything, I have a better understanding of my body. I know the extra amount of recovery stuff I need to do, how to feel my best on a day-to-day basis. Obviously, I probably bounced back a little bit quicker when I was younger but at the same time, I have a better plan and a better standard that I hold myself to on a day-to-day basis so I can be ready for every single practice.”

Throughout his career, Mahomes has stayed remarkably healthy. He's made at least 14 starts since taking over in 2018, indicating he'll play through pain but can weather his way through a gauntlet of a season.
The NFL is no joke, though, and injuries are a part of the game. Putting time and money into your body is something that gives every player the best shot. As he gets to 30 years and older, the body isn't going to recover as quick as it did before but there are different ways to bounce back.
What Mahomes has done before getting to the age of 30 is sensational. His resume is loaded, but if he wants to add to it, the Texas Tech product will need to tap into another level physically, but he's ready for it.
Up until this point, Mahomes has an 89-23 record in the regular season with a 245-74 touchdown-to-interception ratio. With everything he's done thus far, there's no doubt he won't be able to do whatever is needed to continue his success.
