Oyo, Osun govts urge NBC to resolve Ibadan, Iwo boundary dispute quickly
The Oyo and Osun State governments have called on the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to expedite action in resolving the long-standing Ogburo land boundary dispute between Oyo and Osun states.
The appeal was made during a special mediation meeting on the boundary dispute, co-chaired by the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, and Osun State’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, at the Conference Hall of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, Agodi, Ibadan, over the weekend.
The meeting was aimed at settling the longstanding Ogburo land boundary dispute between Oyo and Osun State.
Speaking, Lawal said that both states had submitted memoranda to the National Boundary Commission for some years now without any verdict, noting that the two states have resolved to maintain peace in the boundary community of Ogburo and cautioned against any inflammatory statement from any quarters to stir up violence.
In his remarks, Adewusi expressed confidence that all grey areas with regards to the boundary dispute would be resolved in the best interest of all and in furtherance of the brotherly relationship between the two states.
He also called on security operatives to arrest anyone that continues to fan the embers of discord between the two states, irrespective of status, and ensure fairness in their security obligation.
The meeting had in attendance the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who was represented by High Chief Amidu Ajibade; the Special Adviser to Osun State Government on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo; the President General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Sulaiman Ajewole; and traditional Chiefs from both towns.
The delegation later proceeded on an assessment tour of the Ogburo community to observe the boundaries and charged the community on the need to maintain peace.
On the entourage of the Oyo State Deputy Governor were the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade; the lawmaker representing Lagelu State Constituency, Hon. Olajide Akintunde; the Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Kamorudeen Mudashiru; and a host of others.
