Osimhen rejects Al-Hilal's £25m offer, open to Man United move

Victor Osimhen has turned down a lucrative offer to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, reportedly opening the door to a potential move to Manchester United this summer.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the Saudi Pro League club met Osimhen’s €75 million (£63.2 million) release clause — a figure valid for non-Serie A teams — and offered the Nigerian striker a salary worth £25.3 million per year. Despite the financial package, Osimhen opted not to accept the deal, citing a preference to remain in Europe.

Currently on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray from Napoli, Osimhen has attracted significant attention after scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances across competitions this season. Manchester United, now under the management of Ruben Amorim, are reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation closely.

Al-Hilal, managed by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, had identified Osimhen as a key target ahead of their participation in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Their initial approach for the 26-year-old was rebuffed, but they later returned with a full offer that matched his buyout clause. Still, the striker declined, reinforcing his desire to continue playing at the highest level in Europe.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Eric Chelle, who manages Osimhen at international level with Nigeria, acknowledged that the forward is currently navigating a crucial period in his career.

“Victor is, for me, the best striker in the world,” Chelle said.

“For him it is difficult to come for this game because he played a season with a lot of pressure. The reality is there is a transfer window. During this time, a player like him is not focused at 100%. Maybe a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. So he needs to be focused on that.”

Napoli are widely expected to sell Osimhen this summer, with multiple top European clubs — including Premier League sides — expressing interest in acquiring his services. While no deal has been agreed, Osimhen’s decision to decline the Saudi offer signals his intent to remain competitive at the European level, potentially setting up a move to Old Trafford or another
