The most wonderful thing about these ooey gooey bars is the shatteringly crisp meringue-like crust that appears during baking. It remains crisp even after cooling in the fridge. On top of the crust is, as you might expect, a gooey filling that is nearly tooth-achingly sweet. (Best to have a cup of strong black coffee nearby.) But we've added orange zest to the mixture to give the flavor the tiniest bit of nuance that you aren't likely to find in similar recipes.
