Ola's Krutrim AI Upgraded from Chatbot to Agentic Assistant

Ola-owned Krutrim has officially unveiled Kruti, an indigenous agentic AI assistant, marking a significant evolution from its previous chatbot iteration. This strategic move aims to enhance user agency and comes at a time when Krutrim's earlier products had received mixed reviews. The launch of Kruti, which was initially teased by the founder, positions Krutrim’s artificial intelligence arm to deliver more autonomous and capable solutions.
Unlike traditional chatbots, agentic AI assistants such as Kruti possess the ability to learn from interactions, make independent decisions, and execute tasks on their own. Kruti offers a diverse set of functionalities, enabling users to book taxis, order food, pay bills, generate images, and conduct in-depth research. Notably, features like its research mode, image generation capabilities, and action agents are available to users at no additional cost.
Kruti supports both voice and text inputs, and can articulate its responses aloud, catering to various user preferences. The AI assistant is designed to remember past interactions, allowing it to tailor responses in terms of tone, length, and language, providing a more personalized experience. Furthermore, Krutrim has integrated support for 13 Indian languages into Kruti. Over time, Kruti learns user preferences and adapts to connect with various applications, offering context-aware support with minimal user input.
For developers, Kruti provides a fully embeddable software development kit (SDK), simplifying complex tasks such as Large Language Model (LLM) orchestration, memory management, and tool execution with minimal coding. The design philosophy behind Kruti focuses on reducing app-switching, presenting information clearly through summaries, tables, or stories, and aligning with typical technology usage patterns in India. Powered by Krutrim V2 LLM and various open-source models, Kruti ensures scalable, cost-efficient performance optimized specifically for the Indian market.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Krutrim's founder, emphasized the vision behind Kruti, stating, "Kruti is the first real step towards the future of AI where technology doesn’t just talk back, but actually helps you get things done. We have built Kruti to work the way Indians live: multilingual, mobile-first, and intuitive. It is deeply personal, incredibly capable, and ready to take everyday complexity off your plate. With Kruti, we take a step ahead in building trust, utility, and a truly Indian AI experience for all."
This launch is a crucial announcement for the company, especially given previous reports that Krutrim’s other offerings, including its LLMs and cloud services, had struggled to gain significant traction, with some founders and developers finding them subpar compared to hyperscalers. Despite these challenges, the Bengaluru-based startup achieved unicorn status in 2024, becoming India's first AI unicorn after securing $50 million in funding, valuing the company at $1 billion.
