Okada menace: Lagos task force intensifies crackdown, impounds 139 motorcycles
The Lagos State Task Force has intensified its enforcement against defiant motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada, who continue to ply highways, bridges, and other prohibited routes across the state.
The reinforced exercise, which targeted key areas including Alakija, Iyana-Iba, Abule-Ado Agric bus stop, and Ojo Barrack, led to the impounding of 139 motorcycles.
Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, disclosed that the enforcement was necessary to uphold the state’s traffic regulations and ensure the safety of residents.
“The ban on Okada operations in certain areas was put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all Lagosians, and we will not tolerate any breach of these laws.
Those who continue to operate in restricted areas, endangering the lives of road users, will face the full weight of the law,” Akerele stated.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to public safety as outlined in the THEMES PLUS Agenda, Akerele urged Okada operators to comply with the regulations.
He also called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting violations and avoiding patronising Okada operators in restricted areas for their safety.
The chairman assured the public that the task force would sustain its patrols and enforcement activities across the state, especially in areas prone to illegal Okada operations.
