Ohio State's CFP trophy comically fell apart in JD Vance's hands during team White House visit - Yahoo Sports
Ohio State won its first national championship under coach Ryan Day back in January, but after a trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the White House, the Buckeyes nearly needed a new trophy.
The Ohio State team celebrated its 34-23 national title game win over Notre Dame on the South Lawn on Monday afternoon when Vice President JD Vance attempted to hoist the trophy, which is comprised of two separate pieces, in the air. The trophy itself is meant to be separated from the base and lifted up, but apparently, the vice president didn't get the memo.
When Vance, who is an Ohio State graduate, attempted to lift the trophy and base simultaneously, they separated. He fumbled the base to the ground, but luckily, the trophy itself was spared the same fate.
Vance later held the trophy piece while posing for a picture with the team.
The Buckeyes had a magical run through the CFP after sustaining a shocking loss to rival Michigan to conclude the regular season, winning four playoff games in a row to capture their first championship since 2014. Luckily, they still have the trophy as it seems to have survived the hilarious snafu at the White House.
