- Migori woman representative Fatuma Mohamed has criticised former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua for celebrating opposition leader Raila Odinga’s loss in his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, February 18, the ODM legislator expressed her anger over the celebrations and defended Raila as the best candidate for the esteemed position.
Fatuma commended President William Ruto for his unwavering support for Raila during his campaign for the AUC role, despite the outcome.
She affirmed her loyalty to the president, vowing continued support for him as a gesture of gratitude for standing with Raila.
"We love Ruto and we will pay him back because he loves our son," she said.
In a fiery address, Fatuma challenged Gachagua, questioning why he did not vie for the position if he believed Raila was unfit.
"If you think Raila was not a good candidate, why didn’t you present yourself? Let us see how many votes you would have garnered," she remarked, expressing her frustration at those mocking Raila’s loss.
She further condemned Gachagua and his allies calling their celebrations shameful and asserting that they would not win public support.

Fatuma went on to suggest that the former Mathira MP did not deserve to remain in the country, stating:
"For the Wamunyoros who were dancing, shame on you and we are waiting for you. I swear we are waiting for you. We will embarrass you. Not even one vote you can get in this country. You are not even Kenyan. You should even be expelled from this country," she furiously stated.
Gachagua's allies likened the celebratory mood following Raila's loss to the events surrounding the former deputy president’s impeachment.
They instead encouraged Raila to channel his energy into addressing what they described as a “rogue regime” led by President Ruto.
Meanwhile, while congratulating Raila on his performance in the AUC elections, Gachagua suggested that Raila's loss might have been part of God's plan, allowing him to focus on fighting for the interests of Kenyans.
Meanwhile, according to the Migori politician, she took a loan of KSh 600,000 to cover her travel expenses, as the National Assembly only funded two members.
She admitted that repaying the loan would be a challenge but affirmed her unwavering support for Raila, vowing to celebrate his return to the country.
The outspoken leader also revealed that, like her, many Kenyans made sacrifices—some sold their cows, others took loans, and some even travelled to Ethiopia by bus—to witness the historic event.
