Special Aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bwumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has emphasized the strategic advantage of continuity in political campaigns, arguing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stands a better chance in the next general election by sticking with a candidate who already commands a significant voter base.

“If you look at the electoral history of this country, it clearly tells you that you are better off going into your next elections with a candidate that has a baseline vote in his basket than to go with one that is zero,” he argued while speaking to the media during former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s meeting with the immediate past Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He pointed to past elections to support his claim, referencing President John Agyekum Kufuor’s rebound after an initial loss.

“President Kufuor came back from 39 percent to win the next elections,” Aboagye stated. “Every successful candidate since Rawlings has come into the race with some prior electoral capital.”
