Nairobi was recognized as Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination at the 2025 World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the sixth year running after beating Kiggali, Accra, Lagos, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. This is a testament to its significance as a leading destination for business tourism across the continent.

Nairobi’s consistent recognition at the World Travel Awards highlights its strategic importance in Africa’s business landscape. The city’s robust infrastructure, including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the Nairobi Expressway, facilitates seamless connectivity for international business travelers. Additionally, Nairobi’s status as a regional headquarters for numerous multinational corporations and international organizations, such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), further cements its position as a business travel destination of choice.

Nairobi’s appeal as a business travel destination is further enhanced by its state-of-the-art venues, such as the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), which regularly hosts major international conferences and events. The city’s growing portfolio of luxury accommodations, including the JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi, which opened in March 2024, provides world-class facilities for business travelers.

The World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony also celebrated other Kenyan achievements in the tourism sector. Kenya Airways was recognized as Africa’s Leading Airline, while Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was named Africa’s Leading Airport. Additionally, the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club received the title of Africa’s Leading Hotel, and Diani Beach was honored as Africa’s Leading Beach Destination.

Nairobi’s success as a top business travel destination can also be attributed to its growing role as a key player in Africa’s innovation and technology sectors. The city has developed into a technology hub often referred to as “Silicon Savannah,” attracting startups, entrepreneurs, and investors from around the world. With government initiatives like the Kenya Vision 2030 and investment in tech parks such as Nairobi’s “iHub” and the Nairobi Innovation Hub, the city continues to foster an entrepreneurial spirit that aligns with the needs of business travelers seeking opportunities in the tech industry.

Moreover, Nairobi’s well-established hospitality industry continues to evolve, with new hotels and serviced apartments opening every year to cater to the growing number of business visitors. These accommodations offer a variety of meeting spaces, modern facilities, and personalized services that ensure business travelers feel comfortable and productive during their stay.

In addition to infrastructure and innovation, Nairobi’s rich cultural diversity and vibrant local experiences make it an ideal destination for mixing business with leisure. Business travelers can explore Kenya’s world-renowned wildlife, experience local cuisine, and visit cultural landmarks, all while enjoying high-end services and amenities, making Nairobi a well-rounded destination for work and relaxation.

As Nairobi continues to invest in infrastructure and expand its capacity to host international business events, its status as a leading business travel destination in Africa is poised to grow even stronger. The city’s commitment to excellence in service delivery and its strategic location make it an attractive destination for business travelers seeking opportunities in East Africa and beyond.

Nairobi’s recognition as Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination at the 2025 World Travel Awards reaffirms its position as a premier hub for business tourism. With ongoing investments in infrastructure and a commitment to providing world-class services, Nairobi is well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of international business travelers.
