North-East Youth Group Commends Military For Repelling ISWAP Assaults

Published 1 week ago2 minute read

The North-East Youth Renaissance Group, NYRG, on Wednesday said with more determination and support of the people, troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria would continue to decimate terrorists attacking communities in the region and the entire country.

The group said the region is facing an unenviable situation with sad tales, but troops can turn the situation around with the people’s support.

NYRG stated this in reaction to a failed attack on New Marte and the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe in Borno State by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP.

The failed Tuesday night attack left ISWAP fighters with at least 15 dead.

Similarly, troops also repelled a daring attempt by terrorists to attack the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe.

In a press release, NYRG Secretary Bello Alhaji commended the collaborative effort of the Armed Forces’ different arms.

In the press release, he said that the AFN, under the Chief of Defence, Gen. Chris Musa, has shown the capacity to defend the country and take on terrorists.

“NYRG commends what has happened in Marte and Kumshe. It confirms our trust in the ability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the Chief of Defence, Gen. Chris Musa, to defend our country.

“The renewed jointness and team spirit in the fight against terrorism will ultimately bring lasting peace and enable socio-economic activities to thrive in the Northeast region.

“Our role as residents of the North-East is to continue to pray for and support our troops as they seek to turn around the unenviable situation and sad tales our region finds itself in now,” NYRG added.
