Published 1 day ago2 minute read

The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing women and youth into key positions in government.

The organisation specifically commended the President for appointing women, including Princess Atika Ajana Aliyu and Usoro Akpabio, to head strategic commissions and agencies.

While Aliyu was appointed executive director (projects) of the newly constituted North Central Development Commission (NCDC),
Akpabio was appointed managing director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC).

NCWC National President, Princess Edna Azura, in a statement Wednesday, described the move as a bold and commendable step toward inclusivity and gender equity.

She noted that the appointments reflect the president’s commitment to harnessing the potential of women and young people for national development.

Azura said: “The NCWS notes with pride that these appointments are not mere gestures, but strategic decisions aimed at bringing the wealth of experience, competence, and leadership that Nigerian women possess into the highest levels of national service and policy implementation.

“We view this as a remarkable step toward achieving sustainable development and affirming the vital roles women and youths play in nation-building.

“On behalf of the entire Council and Nigerian women across the country, we express our heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inclusive leadership.

“We reaffirm our support for his administration’s efforts to create a progressive, inclusive, and people-centered Nigeria.”
