NHEA to boost medical innovation, leadership through national honours
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s health sector have expressed optimism that national honours and public recognition of outstanding individuals and institutions at this year’s Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards (NHEA) will inspire more innovation, leadership, and commitment to improving health outcomes across the country.
As anticipation builds for the 11th edition of the yearly event, scheduled to be held on June 27, 2025, at Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, attention is focused on how recognition can drive performance.
Organisers believe the awards will serve not just as a celebration of excellence, but as a catalyst for sustained improvements in healthcare service delivery.
This year’s ceremony will feature notable public figures, including the governors of Lagos and Katsina states, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Dikko Umar Radda, as well as the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, who are expected to headline the event.
According to the award committee, the recognitions will further acknowledge institutional innovation and community-focused initiatives. Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies Limited will be recognised for its efforts in boosting local syringe production, thereby reducing Nigeria’s dependence on medical imports.
ABUAD Multisystem Hospital is also set to be honoured for pioneering patient-centred and high-quality care in the country.
Also receiving special recognition is the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for her Jumejilo Multi-Birth Assistance Programme (JMAP), which has been commended for its targeted support to mothers of multiple births.
The NHEA Project Director, Dr Wale Alabi, explained that the 2025 edition aims to shine a light on healthcare leaders who are driving meaningful change. He noted that the awardees reflect a broader movement toward system-wide transformation.
“What we are celebrating goes beyond individual accolades. It is a reflection of progress, real impact in healthcare access, quality, and innovation,” he said.
