The New England Patriots underwent major changes to their organization after a disastrous 2024 season. With Jerod Mayo and a lot of the coaching staff out, the Patriots brass brought in a new group of coaches.

Mike Vrabel was hired to be the head coach, while Josh McDaniels was brought back to be the offensive coordinator. Those two moves were made with a clear goal in mind: to help Drake Maye develop as much as possible.

During a segment of NFL on ESPN, NFL insider Peter Schrager had a take on the Patriots' additions of Vrabel and McDaniels, and how it would affect Maye heading into year two of his NFL career.

Schrager said, "I can't imagine a better situation for Drake Maye." It's a bold claim from Schrager, as there hasn't been any games with Vrabel, McDaniels, and Maye together yet.

The Patriots added Vrabel with the hope he'd change the team's identity. After a porous 2024 season. Schrager commented on that change through Vrabel and McDaniels, "I think the delta, the matter of change between last year and this year is going to be enormous just on the coaching staff alone."

Maye is coming off a rookie season marred with uncertainty. He saw Jacoby Brissett start the year, before eventually getting his shot to be a starter in week six.

In his first year, Maye threw for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He went 3 and 9, and while his quarterback rating was just an 88.1, there was clear evidence of potential for the former 3rd overall pick.

Getting a chance to be coached by two NFL greats in Vrabel and McDaniels is a huge boost for Maye. In the eyes of Schrager, there is no better fit and situation for Maye than what he has now.

The Patriots look ahead to the 2025 season, with a chance to see a major turnaround for the franchise quarterback. The chances of Maye developing are great through the eyes of NFL insider Peter Schrager.
