Started in 2023, the Day of European Authors is coming back in autumn and becomes European Authors Day.

The European Commission published a call for proposals in November 2024 for the organisation of the Day of European Authors, a reading promotion initiative that started in 2023 under the Creative Europe programme. A consortium of 7 partners from 5 countries has been selected to run the 2025, 2026 and 2027 editions of the action under the new name “European Authors Day”.

The consortium is led by the Universal Reading Foundation (Poland) and includes the following partner organisations:

From 2025 onwards, this initiative is called European Authors Day.

There will also be novelties on the timing and the format: in 2025, reading and book events will take place between 11 November and 12 December. These will gather authors, illustrators with their readers in schools, libraries and bookstores in 40 countries of the Creative Europe programme.

In addition, there will also be training workshops in November 2025 and a conference on reading promotion in March 2026.

More information on the upcoming events and how to take part in these will be available soon.

Through this initiative that started in 2023, the European Union seeks to inspire younger generations to establish a relationship with the world of books. It serves as a platform for promoting and supporting ongoing programmes and initiatives in European countries to encourage a culture of reading.
