NDC Official: Suspended Chief Justice "Betrayed Public Trust"
Speaking on Starr FM, Suhuyini argued this conduct itself justifies her removal from office, stating it constitutes “stated misbehaviour.” He emphasized that the privileges of her high office demand strict adherence to legal protocols.
Suhuyini specifically referenced Chief Justice Torkornoo’s application to the Supreme Court requesting public hearings for her impeachment process, which the court unanimously dismissed.
“Your colleagues… looked into your face… concluded that it had no merit and threw you out,” Suhuyini stated, highlighting the Court’s directive for proceedings to remain confidential. He contended that her subsequent public statements directly contradicted this binding judicial decision.
Further countering potential claims of political motivation, Suhuyini pointed out that none of the Supreme Court justices who ruled against the Chief Justice’s application were appointed by current President John Mahama.
This detail, he implied, undermines arguments that the suspension process or the Court’s ruling stems from bias by the ruling NDC administration. The controversy surrounding the Chief Justice’s suspension continues to fuel debate about judicial conduct and constitutional processes under President Mahama’s government.
