The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has offered a reward of N5 million to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the service, Umar Abubakar, on Wednesday.

Daily Trust had reported that a force majeure occurred at about 0200 hours on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, leading to the escape of seven inmates.

The inmates escaped following a rainfall that breached the security at the custodial centre.

The NCoS has launched a manhunt for the fleeing inmates, adding that it was working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody.

“In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State,” the statement said in part.

The service urged members of the public to report any information they may have regarding the whereabouts of the inmates at large to the nearest security agencies, promising that all information would be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity.

It also urged the public to contact the NCoS public complaint response desk via: [email protected] to give information on any of the fleeing inmates.
