NBA Draft: Wednesday Final Day College Players Can Withdraw
The final day for college players to withdraw from the NBA draft is right around the bend, with some having already done so after testing the waters.
Non-NCAA players (international, etc.) must withdraw by June 5. The first round of the 2025 draft takes takes place June 25, with the second round to be held the following afternoon.
The Dallas Mavericks own the top pick and are widely expected to select Duke star Cooper Flagg. The real mystery begins at No. 2. The San Antonio Spurs could take Rutgers guard Dylan Harper at that spot, or could trade it, given that they already have standout De’Aaron Fox and All-Rookie team member Stephon Castle at that spot.
As for the draft overall, more college players are declaring by the year, testing the draft waters as the NCAA has loosened its rules on eligibility. More players, therefore, are also returning to college after learning that they’re not close to ready for the pro game.
The difference between now and yesteryear is that college players can now get paid via NIL deals, and for the vast majority, college will be the last time anyone pays them to play basketball.
Those who have put their name in the NBA draft hat generally take part in individual or group workouts, then receive feedback from teams on why they should stay in the draft, or perhaps prepare to start in the G League, or return to college and put in extra work.
If the decision is return to college, well, players must make that call by noon EST on Wednesday.
