Zack Curran, who spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Air Force, has joined the men’s basketball coaching staff at Navy.  Head coach Jon Perry made the announcement today, which completes his inaugural coaching staff.

“Zack is a self starter who possesses a great work ethic and passion for developing relationships,” said Perry.  “He brings a nationally respected recruiting presence to our staff, and those strong connections will immediately help elevate our program.  Having coached at a service academy, Zack understands the unique opportunities our student-athletes navigate and what it takes to recruit young men who are excited for the opportunity to lead and serve.  His commitment to daily excellence, serving others and finding joy in the process aligns perfectly with our culture here at the Naval Academy.  We are excited to welcome Zack, Mallory and Adeline to our Navy basketball family.”

“The Naval Academy is an institution I have tremendous respect for,” said Curran.  “To have the opportunity to join coach Perry’s staff and impact the impressive student-athletes here at Navy is something I am incredibly grateful for.  The combination of the men’s basketball program’s winning tradition paired with the Academy’s mission of developing future leaders is truly special, and I’m honored to be part of it.  I look forward to contributing to the program’s continued success both on and off the court.”

Curran graduated from Virginia Tech in 2015 with a degree in economics.  He began his coaching career as an assistant at Marymount during the 2015-16 season.  He left the NCAA Division III school after one season to serve as the recruiting director for The Hoop Group.  He helped run camps and tournaments for AAU teams and players for three years for the organization before returning to the coaching ranks as the director of operations at George Mason in the summer of 2019.

The Patriots posted winning seasons in each of his two years in Fairfax.  George Mason compiled an overall record of 30-24 during that span, which included a 13-9 record in 2020-21 when it reached the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

Curran began serving as an assistant coach at Air Force during the summer of 2021.  He worked with all facets of the program during his four years in Colorado Springs, including recruiting, scheduling, monitoring academic performance and game planning.
