Natasha Files Petition Against Akpabio and Sandra Duru

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Dr. Sandra Duru with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi. The petition alleges criminal conspiracy, defamation, cyberstalking, and an attempted assassination. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that Akpabio and Duru orchestrated a coordinated smear campaign to damage her reputation.

The petition accuses Akpabio and Duru of orchestrating a malicious campaign involving defamation, cyber-stalking, and attempted assassination. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that the allegations against her are false and part of a conspiracy to undermine her work and reputation, expressing fear for her safety and that of her family due to harassment and intimidation.

According to the petition, Dr. Duru, posing as “Prof. Mgbeke,” initially presented herself as a supporter but later demanded payment for “framing narratives” and rallying digital support. When Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan declined, Duru allegedly launched a character assassination campaign. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team believes the evidence will show a deliberate campaign to malign and endanger their client through false accusations.

The petition also alleges that Senator Akpabio had a motive to retaliate against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan after she publicly accused him of sexual harassment in February 2025. The suspended Senator urged the IGP and AGF to investigate the alleged attempt on her life by Senator Akpabio.

The petition, dated 15th May, 2025, and filed by Senator Ehiogie West-Idahosa, asserts that it is supported by incontrovertible evidence from public broadcasts, witness testimonies, media reports, and expert analyses. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claims that facts demonstrate a deliberate retaliatory campaign by Senator Akpabio, using proxies and resources to harm her. She called on the Minister and the IGP to examine the statements and actions of third-party collaborators who publicly endorsed the defamatory broadcast against her to determine their knowledge of and participation in the conspiracy.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, through her counsel, maintains that the actions against her amount to a criminal enterprise violating multiple laws and urges a thorough investigation to ensure justice is dispensed to all involved, regardless of their status in Nigerian society.
