Daniel Nderitu Mwangi was allegedly killed during a confrontation between police officers and local residents.
According to reports, he was shot when police opened fire to disperse the crowd during a chaotic scene.
The killing led to protests outside the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital, where angry residents gathered to demand justice.
“They came to the neighborhood, and when the youths saw them, they ran away. However, three young men were arrested. They refused to get into the police van because they were used to such harassment. When other residents saw what was happening, they united and came out in large numbers, throwing stones at the officers,” said one young woman.
It was alleged that in the heat of the moment, police officers opened fire, fatally shooting Nderitu.
Nderitu's mother wailed at the hospital, devastated by the loss of her son. She had to be supported by two women as she wept uncontrollably.
Struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, she mourned her son, who, according to another resident, was shot in the mouth.
There was a major uproar at the medical facility as angry residents refused to stay calm following the incident.
“They shot an innocent man. He had committed no crime. They shot him in broad daylight, in public, without shame or fear, all because of bribery. What kind of country are we living in? This is unacceptable. We urge our president to speak with the Police Commissioner. Please stop the killings of innocent people. We are tired. We are tired of innocent blood being shed,” said another resident.
Nderitu's mother had to be restrained in her grief, crying out in anguish and questioning why the police took her son’s life.
Social media users flocked to the comment section to express their rage and pen consoling messages.
