Moses Kuria Hints at Vying for Presidency in 2027, Says He Has High Chances: "I'm More Than Ready"

Is Moses Kuria quietly preparing to shake up the 2027 presidential race? That is the question many were left asking after the senior advisor to President William Ruto declared he is ready to seek the country’s top seat.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, June 22, Kuria said he was seriously considering a presidential run in the 2027 General Election.
He insisted he had the experience, qualifications, and confidence needed to lead Kenya, and dismissed the idea that any political seat was beyond his reach.
“That is a possibility. Yes. The only seat I cannot vie for is the woman representative of Kiambu. But the other ones, from Member of County Assembly to President, I have every qualification. I will do it and I am more than ready,” Kuria said.
The former Gatundu South MP also revealed he was engaged in talks with former president Uhuru Kenyatta to contest the presidency under the Jubilee Party.
He noted that if those talks collapse, he would still go it alone under his own political vehicle.
“We are talking. It’s Uhuru’s party. I have given them that offer. If they take it, fine. If they don’t take it, I have a party. And life will go on,” he said.
When pressed on whether he would back Ruto for a second term, Kuria gave an ambiguous response.
He said the political landscape could shift before 2027, and that he would not remain a passive observer.
He suggested that even if the Kenya Kwanza administration fails, he would take responsibility for his role in it.
“We will see if we get to 2027. Whether I am supporting him or not, for me, I am adding to the same fire. I cannot be a spectator. If Ruto fails, I will still come up and own up to my share because of the little opportunity I had,” he explained.
Kuria did not hold back in criticising former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, whom he accused of playing a role in his earlier removal from Cabinet.
He ridiculed those already rehearsing for a political showdown he believes will not materialise.
“There are some people who are practicing for a football match that is not going to happen. There is not going to be that kind of a presidential contest.”
Drawing parallels with the 2002 elections, Kuria predicted that 2027 would be shaped by national consensus rather than fierce competition.
He argued that just like Mwai Kibaki’s landslide win, the next transition would be broadly agreed upon by key political stakeholders.
“In 2002, there was like no presidential election. Mwai Kibaki was just rubber-stamped, because he had been pre-agreed. The margin was too huge. 2027 will be another moment like 2002. There is going to be so much consensus in the country. Elders will sit down and agree,” Kuria said.
Confident in his place at the decision-making table, Kuria described himself as a peacebuilder who would contribute to forging unity ahead of the next election.

In a related development previously covered by , former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Joho, now serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, stated he was ready to compete against Ruto and other hopefuls.
Joho expressed confidence in his political experience and dismissed long-held claims that a leader from Mombasa could not ascend to the highest office in the land.
He also reached out to Raila Odinga, with whom he has had a long political alliance, requesting his backing for the 2027 bid.
