More woes for Labour Party as Enugu Rep defects to APC

Published 5 hours ago1 minute read

The Labour Party (LP) suffered another setback on Thursday as a member of the House of Representatives, Sunday Umehia, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umehia, who represents the Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency of Enugu State, announced his defection in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, which was read on the floor of the green chamber during plenary.

In the letter, the lawmaker said division and crisis within the Labour Party were responsible for his decision to join the ruling APC.

Since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on June 13, 2023, about 31 members have changed their political platforms since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly

The ruling APC harvested 28 of the defectors from the PDP, Labour Party (LP), Alliance for Democratic Congress (ADC) and the NNPP.
