Molson Coors CEO Gavin Hattersley to retire in 2025 | Food Business Middle East & Africa - Africa's No.1 Food & Beverage Manufacturing Industry Magazine and Website
The company has initiated a search process, led by its governance committee, to identify a successor.
Hattersley’s journey with the company began 28 years ago at South African Breweries, before relocating to the United States in 2002 following SAB’s acquisition of the Miller business.
He played a key role in the creation of MillerCoors in 2008, a joint venture between Molson Coors and SABMiller.
Following the acquisition of SABMiller by Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2016, Molson Coors assumed full control of the joint venture. Hattersley, who was then CEO of MillerCoors, transitioned into the role of CEO of Molson Coors in 2019.
Under his leadership, the company underwent significant transformation. One month into his role, Hattersley restructured Molson Coors into two distinct business units, a move that included the reduction of 500 jobs.
He also rebranded the company by dropping “Brewing” in favor of “Beverage” to reflect its broader ambitions beyond beer.
Hattersley led Molson Coors through challenging market conditions, while substantially growing its bottom line. In 2024, the company reported revenue of US$11.6 billion and reduced its debt by nearly 40% since 2019.
Chairman Geoff Molson praised Hattersley’s leadership, stating that he has guided the company through unpredictable challenges while delivering consistent growth and upholding the Molson and Coors family legacy.
During his tenure, Hattersley expanded the company’s “Beyond Beer” portfolio into categories such as canned cocktails, premium spirits, and energy drinks.
He also made strategic divestments, including the sale of four underperforming craft beer brands to Tilray in 2024, enabling the company to sharpen its focus on key brands like Blue Moon and Coors Banquet.
Molson Coors has not yet named Hattersley’s replacement but emphasized a smooth leadership transition as the company continues its long-term strategic direction
