Constable Dan Ayoo Obura, who was based at the General Service Unit (GSU) headquarters in Nairobi, reportedly fell ill at home on March 27, prompting his wife to take him to the church for prayers.
TV47 reported that he passed away on the way, and his body was taken to the church that night.
The following day, his wife secured a burial permit from a local assistant chief, who was reportedly unaware of the burial location.
With the permit in hand, she and a small group of church members carried out Obura’s burial within the church compound, citing religious traditions.
Family members claim Obura had been deeply influenced by the church’s radical teachings, which they had previously reported to authorities.
Police suspect occult practices may have played a role and are considering obtaining a court order to exhume the body for an autopsy.
Law enforcement officials had previously visited the church following complaints from the officer’s father about the church’s influence on his son.
As detectives continue their probe, the church leadership is yet to respond to the growing concerns surrounding the officer’s death and burial.
