MAPOLY to honour Osoba, Orelope-Adefulire, others at convocation
The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, is set to honour former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, during its 15th combined convocation ceremony scheduled to hold tomorrow, June 24, 2025.
According to the institution, Osoba, Orelope-Adefulire, and High Chief Tosin Owolabi Fadare will be conferred with the MAPOLY honorary fellowship awards in recognition of their contributions to education, national development and public service.
The polytechnic will also confer awards of excellence on Chairman of Adron Homes and Properties Limited, Adetola Emmanuel-King, and National President of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACCOMORAN), Shamsudeen Apelogun.
Rector of the institution, Dr Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso, disclosed this during a media briefing to announce the convocation activities.
According to him, over 51,000 graduates from nine academic sessions, spanning 2015/2016 to 2023/2024, will receive National Diplomas (ND) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) during the event, with the graduating students drawn from both full-time and part-time programmes.
Jolaoso said the convocation would be the first to be held by the institution since the 2014/2015 academic session and the first since his assumption of office as Rector.
He noted that prizes would be presented to outstanding graduates across faculties and departments in recognition of their academic excellence.
Meanwhile, as part of the convocation programme, a lecture, titled “Diaspora Perspective and the Influence of STEM in the Globalised World of Today,” will be delivered by Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Jolaoso said that the lecture, scheduled to take place at Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall within the campus, aligned with the polytechnic’s renewed focus on innovation and global relevance.
He, however, expressed appreciation to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for his continuous support to the institution, as well as to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and members of the Governing Council of the institution.
